Case Study Overview

Staffordshire Mechanical Solutions (SMS) were appointed as the mechanical and electrical contractor working on a project to supply, install and commission various services for the refurbishment of an old kitchen warehouse to house the Faculty of Arts & Humanities (FAH) for 18 months while their main building was being refurbished.

SMS worked seamlessly with the Principal Contractor and various other specialist subcontractors to complete works to a very tight and challenging programme.

The project was to provide a high-quality facility to house various departments within the FAH ie., Fashion, Printing, Fine Art, Metal Working, Wood Working and Clay modelling. Each discipline required special services thus requiring signification client and design team coordination.

The large-scale project faced significant challenges due to working in an old characterful building; new services had to be supported independently of the building fabric due to age and fragility. Despite these challenges the project was completed on time and within budget.
