Case Study Overview

SMS were appointed as the main contractor for this project and were responsible for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of all services for a complete installation of a new standalone heating system. 

Responsible for the preparation of a Programme of Works and the appointment and management of all sub-contractors required to undertake the building and electrical works required for the project.  

The system comprised: new boiler installation including pumps and controls. A New Building Management System with new controls provided weather compensated energy efficient heating to various parts of the school.

The timescale of the project was challenging as works had to be completed during the summer school shut down.  The challenges presented by the contstraints of the building's layout and space were overcome by utilising flat roofs and existing cupboards etc.  A range of heating options were employed eg. ceiling mounted radiant panels, steel radiators, LST radiators and fan convectors to deliver the required heat outputs.
